Ever wonder how mixed reality videos are made showing users in virtual reality games like Beat Saber? That kind of compositing is done using the free LIV app, camera with HDMI output, video capture card, and green screen. We set up our studio to test some mixed reality and chat with LIV engineer David Goodman about the awesome ways mixed reality videos can bring new perspectives to VR capture.

The Avatar thing is interesting. I'm imaging developers making a half-version where they put the character's costume on you. Think of one of the turret shooter, where you're an archer, mage or in a western and in the video you "cosplaying" as the player character.

Is there a way to tweak this so you can remove the headset and controllers and it would feed location data to steamVR? So you could make mixed reality content where you aren't wearing a headset, it would be perfect for trailers.

Was your floor set a bit high? I noticed a lot of leaning forward/down in Beat Saber.
Cool tech, by the way. I had always assumed you needed a puck to do mixed reality.
