Four young friends set out to live on just $1 a day for two months in rural Guatemala. Armed with only a video camera, they battle hunger, parasites, and extreme financial stress as they attempt to survive life on the edge. An unimaginable reality for most young Americans, the challenges they face are real and plague over 1.1 billion people around the world. While the friends quickly learn there are no easy answers, the generosity and strength of Rosa, a 20 year old women, and Chino, a 12 year old boy, give them resilient hope that there are effective ways to make a difference.

  • I couldn´t live for a single day like that. If there´s a global disaster ever, this are the only people who are going to survive. I will prefer to just die in the first impact and get done with it. Once as a child, my nanny told me that unhappy people are, because they want more than they can afford. That has to be the reason why this people can cope with this conditions, they don´t expect much. I did free charity work for 5 years and of course, didn´t expect any remuneration of any kind at all. Good karma repaid it to me 100 fold.

Grameen = American Payday Loans. Also never forget the money those Grameen places are giving out is the US Aid that's being sent to Guatemala for these poor people to just be given with no strings attached.

Could have made this same thing in West Virginia, USA, but of course these Virtue Singlers don't want to show what it's like to be Poor and White.

  • Be careful or you might see what Jesus seen as he walked among the poor downtrodden many years ago.Could I live there on a dollar a day? YES I could but maybe not live very well.I am an old man now.I still remember walking with my Father who worked the fields working for just 50 cents for a days work.So I say that living poor is a lot different than playing like you are poor..Some times life can hit you really hard and the truly poor can lose a child or die with a sickness because you just could not pay.

The 1954 Guatemalan coup d'état, code-named Operation PBSUCCESS, was a covert operation carried out by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) that deposed the democratically elected Guatemalan President Jacobo Árbenz and ended the Guatemalan Revolution of 1944–1954. It installed the military dictatorship of Carlos Castillo Armas, the first in a series of U.S.-backed authoritarian rulers in Guatemala. Hey Guatemala, where's our thank you for destroying your democracy?

  • Great job guys,,you can really see the pain in the older guys eyes, internally he looked defeated..the truth is that there are similar stories all Over from over seas to our own back yard. It is sad that the world has so much greed…

  • It's realy shocking. Thank u guys let us see what poverty really means. I think we the peoples enjoying abundant lives should really think about the questions in last of the video, what can I do for them. They should also be the peoples enjoying an abundant life.
